What Does God Say About Addiction?
Addiction is slavery that started as a choice. Somewhere along the way it stopped asking permission. The Bible does not use the modern word, but it knows the condition exactly: a thing you serve that once promised to serve you. Scripture is blunt about how bondage works and even blunter about how freedom comes. It refuses to shame you for being caught, because everyone it was written to was caught by something. God is not offering you a stern talk. He is offering an exit, and these verses walk toward it.

“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.”
1 Corinthians 6:12
Paul draws the line an addict knows by heart: permissible is not the question, power is. The moment a thing can command you, it has stopped being a pleasure and become a master. Paul refuses in advance. I will not be brought under the power of any. That sentence is where freedom starts.

John 8:34-36
Jesus names it without flinching: whoever commits sin is its servant, and servants do not free themselves. That is the honest half. The hope is the last line. If the Son makes you free, you are free indeed, which means actually free, not just managing it.

Romans 7:24-25
Paul knew the war between wanting to stop and doing it anyway. O wretched man that I am is not polished. It is a man at the end of his own strength, which is exactly where the next sentence becomes possible. The question is who shall deliver me, not how shall I deliver myself. Paul's answer still stands.

Romans 6:14
Dominion is a ruling word. Sin used to hold office in you, and Paul announces the administration has changed. Under grace, the thing that owned you has lost its legal claim. Your feelings will take time to catch up to the paperwork. The claim is still void.

Psalm 40:2-3
Miry clay is the right image, ground that gives way every time you try to climb out. Then comes the sequence: brought up, set on rock, steps established, new song. Notice the order. Footing comes before singing. God rebuilds from the ground up.

Galatians 5:1
Stand fast, and be not entangled again. Paul writes to freed people about the pull back toward the old yoke, which means relapse is not a modern discovery. Freedom has to be held, daily, on purpose. Christ did the breaking. Standing fast is your part, and you do not do it alone.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Addiction tells you that you are your worst pattern, permanently. This verse says the pattern is old and you are new. Identity comes first. Behavior follows it, slowly, in the direction of what you believe you are.

I am asking for that freedom, one day at a time, starting today. Pull me out of the clay and put my feet on rock. Give me people, honesty, and Your word within reach.
