Jeroboam

dzhehr-o-BO-uhm

Who is Jeroboam?

Jeroboam, son of Nebat, was a servant of Solomon who rose in revolt and became the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel after the nation split from Rehoboam (1 Kings 11:26, 1 Kings 12:20). To keep his people from worshipping at Jerusalem he set up two golden calves (1 Kings 12:28), and Scripture holds him up as the king who made Israel to sin (1 Kings 14:16).
