Who was Balak?

Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites who, fearing Israel after they defeated the Amorites, sent for the prophet Balaam to curse Israel (Numbers 22:2, Numbers 22:5). Balaam blessed Israel instead, and this episode is recalled as a sign of the LORD's righteousness (Micah 6:5).
