Hazael
HAZ-ay-ehl
Who is Hazael?
Hazael was a king of Syria (Aram) whom Elisha foretold would seize the throne, telling him 'thou shalt be king over Syria' (2 Kings 8:13). He murdered Benhadad by smothering him with a wet cloth and reigned in his place (2 Kings 8:15), then warred against Israel (2 Kings 8:28); the LORD had first named him to Elijah at Damascus (1 Kings 19:15).
