Who is Gedaliah?

Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, was the governor appointed by Nebuchadnezzar over the people left in Judah after Jerusalem's fall (2 Kings 25:22). Based at Mizpah, he urged the remaining Judeans to serve Babylon and dwell safely in the land (2 Kings 25:24), but he was assassinated by Ishmael son of Nethaniah (2 Kings 25:25).
