What is Ebal?
Ebal is a mountain in the land of Israel, the mountain of the curse set opposite mount Gerizim, the mountain of the blessing (Deuteronomy 11:29). On mount Ebal Joshua built an altar to the LORD (Joshua 8:30). The name Ebal also belongs to a man in the genealogies, a son of Shobal (Genesis 36:23).
