What Does God Say About Toxic Relationships?
Some relationships drain more than they give, and you know which ones. Scripture is not naive about this. The Bible talks openly about companions who corrupt, anger that spreads, and people you are told to walk away from. God commands love, but He never commands you to hand someone unlimited access to your heart. Guarding it is His instruction, not your selfishness. These verses lay out where the lines are. Read them and get honest about who is inside yours.
7 Scriptures for Toxic Relationships?
βKeep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.β
Proverbs 4:23
Before Scripture says anything about other people, it says this about you. Guard your heart, with all diligence, because everything in your life flows out of it. A guarded heart still loves. It just has a gate, and someone watching it.

Proverbs 22:24-25
This is a direct command about choosing relationships. Do not bind yourself to an angry man. The reason is contagion: lest thou learn his ways. You become what you stay close to, and the snare is what his temper trains into you long after he calms down.

Proverbs 13:20
Solomon reduces it to one line of cause and effect. Walk with the wise and you get wiser. Keep company with fools and you get destroyed. Not slowed down, not held back. Destroyed.

1 Corinthians 15:33
Paul quotes this like a proverb the church should already know. Evil communications corrupt good manners. Your character is porous. Constant exposure changes you, no matter how strong you believe your boundaries are. Be not deceived means most people are.

Psalm 1:1
Notice the progression. Walking, then standing, then sitting. Toxic influence rarely arrives all at once; you pass by, then you linger, then you settle in. The blessed life starts with refusing the first step, not with fighting your way up out of the seat.

2 Timothy 3:5
Paul describes people who look godly and act destructive, and his instruction is three words. From such turn away. Not fix them, not absorb them, not stay close and hope. Turning away can be obedience. Sometimes it is the only faithful move left.
Read the full chapter ββIf it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.β
Romans 12:18
This verse carries two mercies. Live peaceably with all men, and the honest qualifier: if it be possible, as much as lieth in you. God knows some peace is not yours to make alone. Do your part fully, then release what was never yours to carry.

God, You see the relationships that are wearing me down, and You see how long I have excused them. Give me clear eyes about who builds me up and who is pulling me apart. Show me where the line belongs, and give me the courage to hold it without hatred. Guard my heart where I have left the gate open. If peace is possible, help me make it; if it is not, help me walk away clean. Amen.
