What Does God Say About Envy?
Envy is the sin nobody confesses. People will admit to anger, doubt, even lust, long before they say the word envy out loud. But you know the feeling: someone else gets the thing, and something in you quietly drops. Scripture treats envy as a health problem as much as a moral one. It rots you from the inside while the other person's life stays exactly the same. These verses name the sickness and then walk you toward the cure. Read them slowly, and be honest about what they find.
6 Scriptures for Envy?
“A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.”
Proverbs 14:30
Solomon writes like a physician here. A sound heart gives life to the whole body; envy rots the bones, the deepest structure you have. Notice who gets hurt in this verse. Not the person you envy. Envy is the one sin that punishes you for somebody else's blessing.

Psalm 73:2-3
Asaph led worship in the temple, and he almost lost his faith over other people's success. My feet were almost gone, he says. Not from tragedy, not from doubt, but from watching people who ignored God prosper anyway. He got his footing back inside the sanctuary, and the rest of this psalm is what he saw from there.

Psalm 37:7
Fret is the old word for what envy does at two in the morning. David's prescription sounds passive at first. Rest. Wait. But underneath it is one hard instruction: close the books you have been keeping on other people's lives, because their prosperity was never your assignment.

James follows envy downstream and shows you where the water goes: confusion and every evil work. Envy never stays a private feeling. It leaks into words, friendships, marriages, churches. And he is blunt about the source. A way of seeing the world that ranks and resents does not come from above.

1 Corinthians 13:4
Charity envieth not. Three words, and they cut deep. You cannot fully love someone you are envying, because envy quietly needs them to have less. Love wants them to have more, and means it. The measure of your love for a person is whether you can watch them win without flinching.

Galatians 5:26
Paul names both faces of the same coin. Provoking one another is envy seen from above, making others feel your advantage. Envying one another is the view from below. Both grow out of desiring vain glory, an approval that was never going to hold your weight. The verse before this one gives the cure: walk in the Spirit, at your own pace, on your own path.

God, I will say what I usually will not: I have wanted what You gave to someone else. I have watched other lives grow and felt my own shrink. You call envy rottenness in the bones, and I can feel that it is true. Clean it out of me. Teach me to celebrate what You are doing in other people without auditing what You are doing in me.
