Nethaniah

NETH-uh-NYE-uh

Who is Nethaniah?

Nethaniah is a name borne by several men in Scripture. Most often it names the father of Ishmael, who was of the royal seed and who murdered Gedaliah, the governor of Judah, at Mizpah (2 Kings 25:25, Jeremiah 41:2). It is also the name of a son of Asaph among the temple musicians (1 Chronicles 25:2), a Levite sent by Jehoshaphat to teach in Judah (2 Chronicles 17:8), and the father of Jehudi (Jeremiah 36:14).
