Jezreel

DZHEHZ-reel

What is Jezreel?

Jezreel was a city and valley in northern Israel, site of a royal residence of King Ahab and of Naboth's vineyard (1 Kings 21:1). There Jezebel met her death, thrown from a window and eaten by dogs as the LORD had spoken (2 Kings 9:30). Later the prophet Hosea was told to name his son Jezreel, for God would avenge the blood shed there upon the house of Jehu (Hosea 1:4).
