Who is Hoshea?
Hoshea is the name of several men in Scripture, most notably Hoshea the son of Elah, the last king of the northern kingdom of Israel. He seized the throne by conspiring against Pekah (2 Kings 15:30) and reigned nine years in Samaria (2 Kings 17:1), until the king of Assyria captured Samaria and carried Israel into exile (2 Kings 17:6). Hoshea was also the original name of Joshua the son of Nun (Deuteronomy 32:44), and the name of an Ephraimite officer under David (1 Chronicles 27:20) and of a man who sealed the covenant in Nehemiah's day (Nehemiah 10:23).
