Bible Verses for Strength in Hard Times
There are seasons that ask more of you than you think you can give. The Bible is full of them. The exile. The wilderness. The prison. God does not promise hard times will be short. He promises He will supply the strength to stand through them. These verses are for the long weeks when you are not sure how you are still upright. Read them slowly. Let the old promises do what they were made to do.
6 Scriptures for Strength in Hard Times
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Psalm 46:1
Three things packed into one verse. Refuge, for when you need shelter. Strength, for when you have to keep moving. Very present, meaning He is here now, not far off somewhere waiting to be summoned. All three are already available in whatever this season is.

Isaiah 40:29
The promise is to the faint. Not to the spiritually strong. Not to the people who figured it out. To the ones who are out. God's supply line runs toward depletion, not toward strength you have built up yourself. That is good news if tonight you are running on empty.

Paul names both sides honestly. The pressure is real. The undoing is not. Troubled, yet not crushed. Cast down, yet not destroyed. The hard thing happening to you is real. It is not the last word over you. That is the difference.

Habakkuk is literally describing economic collapse. No crops. No herds. Nothing going right. And from inside that, he says yet. Yet I will rejoice. Yet. The word turns everything. The LORD God is the strength, not the circumstances. That remains true even when the fields fail.

Nehemiah 8:10
Nehemiah is speaking to a people who have just heard the law for the first time in a generation. They are weeping. He tells them the joy of the LORD is what will hold them. Not their own grit. Not their circumstances improving. God's joy over them, which is unaffected by how hard the season is.

The strength is commanded and then underwritten by a promise. Be strong, because I am with you. Not a motivational poster. A guarantee. Whithersoever you go, He is already there. The hard places included.

Lord, this season is long and I am tired in a way sleep cannot fix. You said You give power to the faint and strength to them that have no might. I qualify. Give me the strength that is not mine. Let Your joy steady me. Make my feet sure enough to keep walking, even in places I did not choose. I am not asking for the season to be short. I am asking to be held all the way through it. Amen.
