Bible Verses for Feeling Empty
There is a specific kind of emptiness that is not grief or sadness exactly. It is a hollow. Things that used to matter feel flat. Joy feels far. The Bible takes the hollow seriously. It does not shame you for feeling it. It points toward a fullness that cannot come from anywhere else. These verses are for the evenings when you cannot name what is missing but you know something is.
6 Scriptures for Feeling Empty
“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”
Psalm 42:1-2
The psalmist describes a deer dying of thirst, desperate for water. He is not writing about being a little unsatisfied. He is writing about a soul that is genuinely dry. And he names what it needs. Not a new thing. The living God. The emptiness is a thirst with a specific object.

Jesus is talking to a woman who had tried to fill the hollow with a lot of different things. He does not lecture her. He offers her water that does not run out. The emptiness you feel is not a defect. It is pointing you toward what actually fills.

Isaiah asks the honest question. Why are you spending energy on things that do not fill? The emptiness is not a sign that you need to try harder. It is a sign that you have been drinking from the wrong well. Come to the one that satisfies.

Two promises in one verse. He satisfies. He fills. The longing and the hunger are not problems to be ashamed of. They are the exact state He meets. You do not have to pretend you are full in order to come. You come because you are not.

Jesus does not offer bare survival. He offers abundant life. Emptiness is often the residue of what the enemy has stolen. Joy. Rest. Hope. Connection. Jesus names Himself as the one who came to restore. He fills what was drained.
