Tarshish
TAHR-shihsh
What is Tarshish?
Tarshish was a distant coastal land, listed among the sons of Javan in the table of nations (Genesis 10:4), famed as a far-off trading port reached by seagoing ships that brought back silver, iron, gold, and other riches (2 Chronicles 9:21, Ezekiel 27:12). It was toward Tarshish that Jonah fled by ship to escape the presence of the LORD (Jonah 1:3).
