What is Sela Hammahlekoth?
Sela Hammahlekoth, spelled Selahammahlekoth in the KJV, is the name given to a place in the wilderness where Saul broke off his pursuit of David (1 Samuel 23:28). Saul had David and his men compassed about on a mountain when a messenger brought word that the Philistines had invaded the land, so Saul turned back and the place was named for that parting. David went up from there and dwelt in the strong holds at Engedi.
