Saul

Who is Saul?

Saul was the first king of Israel, a tall and striking young man of whom there was none goodlier among the people (1 Samuel 9:2). Samuel anointed him captain over the LORD's inheritance (1 Samuel 10:1), and the people made him king at Gilgal (1 Samuel 11:15). The name also belongs to an earlier king of Edom, Saul of Rehoboth by the river (Genesis 36:37).
