What is Ramoth-gilead?

Ramoth-gilead was a city east of the Jordan in Gilead that Israel and Syria fought over. King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah went up together to take it back from the king of Syria (1 Kings 22:4, 1 Kings 22:29), and it was there, on Jehu's orders, that a young prophet later anointed Jehu king (2 Kings 9:1).
