What is Rameses?
Rameses was the region of Egypt from which the children of Israel set out at the Exodus, journeying from Rameses to Succoth about six hundred thousand men on foot (Exodus 12:37, Numbers 33:5). It was also the part of Egypt where Joseph earlier settled his father and brethren, giving them a possession in the best of the land as Pharaoh had commanded (Genesis 47:11).
