Who is Nehemiah?
Nehemiah, the son of Hachaliah, was the governor (the Tirshatha) who led the returned exiles in rebuilding Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity (Nehemiah 1:1, Nehemiah 10:1). Alongside Ezra the priest, he taught the people the law and called the day holy to the LORD (Nehemiah 8:9). His name is also listed among those who first returned to Judah with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:2).
