What is Maschil?
Maschil is a Hebrew term found in the superscriptions of thirteen psalms, marking the poem that follows, as in the heading of Psalms 32:1 ('A Psalm of David, Maschil') and Psalms 74:1 ('Maschil of Asaph'). It appears in the titles of psalms attributed to David, Asaph, and the sons of Korah (Psalms 42:1), and is traditionally taken to signal a contemplative or instructive song rather than naming a person or place.
