Machir

Who is Machir?
Machir was the son of Manasseh and grandson of Joseph, whose children Joseph saw before he died (Genesis 50:23). He was the father of Gilead, and his descendants, the Machirites, took and settled the land of Gilead (Numbers 26:29, Numbers 32:39). A later man of the same name, Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, sheltered Mephibosheth and supported David at Mahanaim (2 Samuel 9:4, 2 Samuel 17:27).
