What is Hyssop?
Hyssop is a small plant used throughout Scripture as a brush for sprinkling blood and water in rites of purification. Israel used a bunch of it to strike the doorposts with the Passover lamb's blood (Exodus 12:22), it was taken for the cleansing of the leper (Leviticus 14:4) and dipped in water to sprinkle the unclean (Numbers 19:18), and David prayed to be purged with hyssop and made clean (Psalms 51:7).
