Hananiah

han-uh-NAI-uh

Who is Hananiah?

Hananiah is a name borne by several men in Scripture. One was a false prophet, the son of Azur from Gibeon, who broke Jeremiah's wooden yoke and predicted Babylon's power would end within two years, and who then died that same year as Jeremiah foretold (Jeremiah 28:1). Another was one of Daniel's companions among the young men of Judah taken to Babylon, given the Babylonian name Shadrach (Daniel 1:6).
