Gibeon
GIHB-ee-uhn
What is Gibeon?
Gibeon was a Hivite city whose people made peace with Israel after hearing what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, making it the only Canaanite city spared through treaty rather than conquest (Joshua 9:3, Joshua 11:19). Its high place later held the tabernacle Moses had made, and there the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night (1 Kings 3:5).
Meaning: hill city (Hebrew)
