What is Chaldean?

A Chaldean was a member of the people of Babylonia. In Scripture Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is called the Chaldean, the one who destroyed the temple and carried the people away into exile (Ezra 5:12). The term also named the wise men and astrologers who served the Babylonian court (Daniel 2:10).
