What is Beth Haccerem?
Bethhaccerem, written as one word in the KJV, was a district with a ruler of its own. Malchiah the son of Rechab, 'the ruler of part of Bethhaccerem', repaired the dung gate and set up its doors, locks and bars (Nehemiah 3:14). Jeremiah tells the children of Benjamin fleeing out of Jerusalem to blow the trumpet in Tekoa and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem, 'for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction' (Jeremiah 6:1).
