BETH-el

What is Bethel?

Bethel is a town in the hill country of Canaan, formerly called Luz, which Jacob named after he dreamed of a ladder reaching to heaven and declared the place to be the house of God (Genesis 28:19). It later became a center of worship, and King Jeroboam set up one of his golden calves there (1 Kings 12:29).
