In the Valley
Prayer for Breakthrough
When you've been pushing against the same wall for so long you've forgotten what the other side looks like. When faith feels more like stubbornness than belief. A prayer for the breakthrough you've almost stopped expecting.
O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good. His mercy endureth for ever. For ever. Not until I mess up again. Not until I prove I don't deserve it. For ever. That's the foundation. That's what I'm standing on today.
They cried unto the Lord in their trouble. And he delivered them out of their distresses. That's the pattern. Trouble. Cry. Deliverance. I'm in the trouble part right now. Which means the cry part is now. Which means deliverance is coming.
Some wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way. They found no city to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. I've felt that. Lost. Without direction. The kind of tired that goes all the way down. Then they cried unto the Lord and he delivered them.
Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron. Some of us are bound by things we didn't choose. And some of us are bound by things we did choose. And he delivered them from both. Fools because of their transgression are afflicted. Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat. They draw near unto the gates of death. Lord, I've been there. The place where you've run out of options and the only place left to look is up. You have done this before. You will do it again. Psalm 107 says He sent his word and healed them. He sent his word. Not a miracle they could explain. Not a burning bush. A word. The same word that made the universe. Sent for one person. For one situation. For this one.
They that go down to the sea in ships that do business in great waters these see the works of the Lord and his wonders in the deep. He commandeth and raiseth the stormy wind. Sometimes you raise the storm, Lord. Sometimes it's part of the plan. He maketh the storm a calm. And then you calm it. And then they are glad.
They cried unto the Lord in their trouble. And he bringeth them out of their distresses. I'm adding my name to that list today. I'm crying unto you. Out of this trouble. Out of this distress. Out of whatever this is.
O that men would praise the Lord for his goodness and for his wonderful works to the children of men. His goodness. His works. Not ours. Not what we accomplished. What he did. He is still doing it. Even now.
Thank you, Lord. For being the God who sends his word. Who calms the storm. Who delivers from the pit. Who is good. Whose mercy endures for ever.
In the name of Jesus, I pray.
Amen.
