Bible Verses for Nightmares and Bad Dreams
Nightmares have a way of following you out of sleep. The fear sits on your chest even after you are awake, and the dark room still feels loaded. The Bible does not dismiss what happens in the dreaming mind. It directly addresses the terror by night, and it offers a God who stays close during the hours when your defenses are down. Read these slowly. You can sleep again.
6 Scriptures for Nightmares and Bad Dreams
βThou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.β
Psalm 91:5-6
The psalmist names terror by night as a specific thing. He does not lump it in with daytime fears. Night has its own weight, and this verse directly covers it. You are not overreacting to what you just saw behind your eyelids. Scripture already named it and already handed it to God.

Psalm 56:3-4
David treats fear as if it is not a question but a given. What time I am afraid. He does not wait to be calm before trusting. Trust happens in the fear, not after it. Whatever you saw in the dream, trust now, while it is still loud.

Isaiah 41:10
Read this out loud if you have to. Five times God tells you He is doing something about the fear. With you. Your God. Strengthening. Helping. Upholding. A right hand under you means you cannot fall, no matter what your dream just showed you.

Proverbs 3:24
Solomon addresses the literal act of lying back down after being shaken. You can. Sweet sleep is still available tonight. The dream was not a verdict. The promise is stronger than the nightmare.

Father, I woke up scared and I am still shaking. I know dreams are not always real, but this one left a mark. Cover me tonight the way You covered David in the wilderness. Send Your peace into this room. Remind me that the spirit of fear is not from You. I am returning the fear. I am trusting You for the next few hours of sleep. Wake me up rested. Amen.
