Bible Verses for Fear of Death

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

Hebrews 2:14-15

The writer names a specific bondage: fear of death. And then names the specific deliverance: Jesus took on flesh specifically to break it. You were not meant to live your whole life enslaved to that fear. He came to set you free from it.

“So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Corinthians 15:54-57

Paul taunts death. He speaks to it directly. Where is your sting? Where is your victory? He can do that because the resurrection of Christ has already dethroned death. It still happens. But its power is gone. The bee without the stinger still looks scary. It cannot actually hurt you.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

Psalm 23:4

David does not say the valley disappears. He walks through it. And the comfort is company. The Shepherd walks alongside. You are not going to face the end alone, and you do not have to face the thought of it alone either. He is with you now and He will be with you then.

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

Philippians 1:21

Paul is writing from prison, possibly facing execution. He flips the math most of us carry. For him, death is gain, not loss. Not because he wants to leave. Because what is on the other side is more, not less. You do not have to feel this yet. But you can start leaning toward it.

“But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”

2 Timothy 1:10

Abolished death is a strong phrase. Death has not been put on pause. It has been finished. It still exists for now. But its role has been taken away. It no longer gets the last word. The last word is life.

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”

John 11:25-26

Jesus ends with a question. Believest thou this? He is asking you directly. Not as a test. As an offer. The fear of death loses its grip when you can say yes to that question. It does not mean you never feel afraid. It means the fear has nowhere ultimate to land.
