A five-verse throne psalm. The LORD reigns; he is clothed with majesty and strength; the world is established that it cannot be moved. The floods have lifted up, the floods have lifted up their voice, the floods lift up their waves. Yet the LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. His testimonies are sure; holiness becomes his house forever. The psalm is concentrated power.

The chaotic waters that threaten creation are not a rival to God's throne but a demonstration of it: his reign is defined precisely by its superiority to every form of chaos.

verse: "The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea." The comparison is not between equals; the waters are the measure of how mightily God reigns.

Jewish tradition uses this psalm on Friday, welcoming the Sabbath.
