Psalms 131King James Version

Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

Listen

Three verses of radical quietness. LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty. I have not exercised myself in great matters or in things too high for me. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself as a weaned child with his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever. The weaned child is not clinging and demanding; it is quietly at rest with the mother. That is the image for the soul at peace.

1[A Song of degrees of David.] LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

2Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

3Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.
