What is Nazirite?

A Nazirite (spelled Nazarite in the KJV) was a man or woman who took a special vow of separation to the LORD, abstaining from wine, leaving the hair uncut, and avoiding contact with the dead (Numbers 6:2). Samson is the best-known example, set apart as a Nazirite to God from the womb (Judges 13:5).
