Jabez

Who is Jabez?

Jabez was a man of Judah described as more honourable than his brethren, whose mother named him Jabez because she bore him in sorrow (1 Chronicles 4:9). He prayed that God would bless him, enlarge his territory, and keep him from evil, and God granted his request (1 Chronicles 4:10). A place bearing the same name, where families of scribes dwelt, is noted in 1 Chronicles 2:55.
