Gideon

GIHD-ee-uhn

Who is Gideon?

Gideon, also called Jerubbaal, was one of the judges of Israel, the son of Joash the Abiezrite of the tribe of Manasseh; the angel of the LORD called him while he was threshing wheat in secret to hide it from the Midianites (Judges 6:11). With only three hundred men the LORD used him to rout the Midianite host (Judges 7:7), and afterward he refused Israel's offer to make him king, saying the LORD would rule over them (Judges 8:23).
