Gemariah
GEM-uh-RYE-uh
Who is Gemariah?
Gemariah son of Shaphan was a scribe in Jerusalem in the days of King Jehoiakim; it was from his chamber in the temple that Baruch read Jeremiah's scroll aloud to the people (Jeremiah 36:10), and Gemariah was among those who pleaded with the king not to burn the scroll (Jeremiah 36:25). A different Gemariah, son of Hilkiah, carried Jeremiah's letter to the exiles in Babylon (Jeremiah 29:3).
