Who is Doeg?

Doeg was an Edomite, the chief of Saul's herdsmen, who saw David receive help from Ahimelech the priest at Nob and reported it to Saul (1 Samuel 21:7). When Saul's guards refused to strike the priests, Doeg killed eighty five of them at the king's command (1 Samuel 22:18), the betrayal behind David's words in Psalm 52 (Psalms 52:1).
