What is Carians?

The Carians, also rendered Carites, were foreign soldiers who served as royal bodyguards in Judah. Some modern translations name them in 2 Kings 11:4, where the priest Jehoiada summoned their captains to help protect the young king Joash; the KJV renders the term simply as 'captains'.
