Beth Aven

beth-AY-vuhn

What is Beth Aven?

Bethaven, written as one word in the KJV, lay beside Ai on the east side of Bethel, in the region Joshua's men from Jericho passed through (Joshua 7:2). Hosea later uses the name as a mocking substitute for Bethel, warning Judah not to go up to Bethaven and saying Samaria shall fear because of 'the calves of Bethaven' (Hosea 4:15, Hosea 10:5).

Meaning: house of vanity (Hebrew)
