Who is Bartimaeus?

Bartimaeus was a blind beggar who sat by the highway side as Jesus went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, and Mark glosses his name in the same breath: 'blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus' (Mark 10:46). Hearing that Jesus of Nazareth was passing, he cried out to him as the Son of David and would not hold his peace, and Jesus called him, gave him his sight, and told him his faith had made him whole.

Meaning: son of Timaeus (Aramaic)
