What is Bar-jona?
Bar-jona is the patronymic Jesus used in addressing Simon Peter after Peter confessed him to be the Christ, the Son of the living God: 'Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven' (Matthew 16:17). The KJV prints it as a single word in that verse, where it marks Simon out as the son of Jona.
