Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee. With my soul have I desired thee in the night. Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust.
A song for a redeemed people entering the strong city after God's judgments. The chapter moves between trust and lament, peace and anguish. The famous verse on perfect peace anchors a prayer for justice and resurrection. God's dead will rise; the earth will give up her dead.
Steadfast trust produces peace even in the middle of upheaval. The righteous nation waits for the LORD even when the earth shakes under its feet.
verse: "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee", the Hebrew uses shalom twice, shalom shalom, for an intensity no single English word captures.
A liberated people re-entering a city of walls and bulwarks after the enemy's occupation has collapsed. The mood oscillates between triumph and unresolved grief, people singing while trauma is still fresh. The resurrection verses drop quietly near the end, as if the singers realized mid-song that death itself is one more enemy God has not finished with.
The people of Judah collectively as singers and pray-ers. Unnamed rulers of other nations who do not learn righteousness. The dead of God's people promised resurrection. No individual named figures.
The resurrection promise in verse 19 is one of the earliest clear Old Testament statements of individual resurrection from the dead, preceding Daniel 12. The perfect-peace verse has become one of the most-quoted comfort texts in Jewish and Christian devotion across millennia.
For when you feel anxious and unable to settle your mind on anything solid. The call to stay the mind on God is not denial of trouble but the practice of redirecting attention toward what is actually stable.

11LORD, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them.
12LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.
13O LORD our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.
14They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.
15Thou hast increased the nation, O LORD, thou hast increased the nation: thou art glorified: thou hadst removed it far unto all the ends of the earth.

19Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
20Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
21For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
