Now those that were with Jeremiah rejoiced and offered sacrifices on behalf of the people for nine days.
But on the tenth day, Jeremiah alone offered sacrifice.
And he prayed a prayer, saying: Holy, holy, holy, the sweet savour of the living trees, the true light that enlighteneth me until I ascend unto thee;
For thy mercy I beseech thee; for the sweet voice of the two seraphim I beseech thee; for yet another sweet savour.
And may Michael, the archangel of righteousness, who openeth the gates unto the righteous, be my keeper, until he causeth the righteous to enter in.
I beseech thee, O Almighty Lord of all creation, unbegotten and past all understanding, in whom all judgement was hidden before these things came into being.
And when Jeremiah had spoken these things, and whilst he stood in the place of the altar with Baruch and Abimelech, he became as one whose soul had departed.
And Baruch and Abimelech wept, crying out with a loud voice: Woe unto us! For our father Jeremiah hath left us; the priest of God hath departed!
And all the people heard their weeping, and they all ran unto them and beheld Jeremiah lying upon the ground as one dead.
And they rent their garments and put dust upon their heads, and wept bitterly.
And after this, they made ready to bury him.
And behold, there came a voice, saying: Bury not him that yet liveth, for his soul returneth unto his body!
And when they heard the voice, they buried him not, but tarried about his tabernacle for three days, saying: When shall he arise?
And after three days, his soul came again into his body, and he lifted up his voice in the midst of them all and said: Glorify God with one voice! All of you, glorify God, and the Son of God who awakeneth us, even the Messiah Jesus, the light of all the ages, the lamp that cannot be quenched, the life of faith.
But after these times there shall be yet four hundred and seventy and seven years more, and he cometh unto the earth.
And the tree of life, planted in the midst of paradise, shall cause all the unfruitful trees to bear fruit, and shall grow and spring forth.
And the trees that had sprouted and were become haughty and said: We have furnished our strength unto the air; he shall cause them to wither, with the greatness of their branches, and shall cause them to be judged, even that tree which is firmly rooted.
And that which is crimson shall become white as wool; the snow shall be made black; the sweet waters shall become salt, and the salt sweet, in the great light of the joy of God.
And he shall bless the isles, that they become fruitful, by the word of the mouth of his Messiah.
For he shall come; and he shall go forth and choose for himself twelve apostles, to proclaim the tidings among the nations; he whom I have beheld, adorned by his Father, and coming into the world upon the Mount of Olives; and he shall fill the hungry souls.
And when Jeremiah spake these things concerning the Son of God, that he cometh into the world, the people were moved with great wrath and said: This is a thing spoken again which Isaiah the son of Amoz spake of old, when he said: I beheld God and the Son of God.
Come, then; let us not slay him after the same manner of death wherewith we slew Isaiah, but let us stone him with stones.
And Baruch and Abimelech were sore grieved, for they desired to hear in full the mysteries which he had beheld.
But Jeremiah said unto them: Be still, and weep not; for they cannot slay me until I have declared unto you all things which I beheld.
And he said unto them: Bring hither a stone unto me.
And he set it up and said: O Light of the ages, make this stone to become as mine own likeness, until I have declared unto Baruch and Abimelech all things which I beheld.
Then the stone, by the command of God, took on the likeness of Jeremiah.
And they stoned the stone, supposing that it was Jeremiah!
But Jeremiah declared unto Baruch and unto Abimelech all the mysteries which he had beheld; and forthwith he stood in the midst of the people, desiring to fulfil his ministry.
Then the stone cried out, saying: O foolish children of Israel, wherefore do ye stone me, supposing that I am Jeremiah? Behold, Jeremiah standeth in your midst!
And when they beheld him, straightway they rushed upon him with many stones, and his ministry was fulfilled.
And when Baruch and Abimelech came, they buried him; and taking the stone, they placed it upon his tomb, and inscribed thereon thus: This is the stone that was the ally of Jeremiah.
And Jeremiah with the people went into Jerusalem, and they rejoiced, bringing up their sacrifices for nine days.
And on the tenth day, Jeremiah offered his sacrifice unto God.
And he prayed
until his soul went up, and his body fell down dead in the place of the altar.
Then Baruch and Abimelech came to mourn for Jeremiah.
And when all the people heard, they ran unto them and beheld Jeremiah lying upon the ground, dead.
And they rent their garments and put dust upon their heads, and they all wept bitterly.
And after this, they made ready to bury him.
And behold, there came a voice from heaven, saying: Bury not him that yet liveth.
And when they heard the voice, they tarried beside him, praying for three days.
And after three days, his soul came again into his body, and he lifted up his voice in the midst of them all, saying: With one voice, all of you glorify God, and his Son who awakeneth us, even the Messiah Jesus, the light of all the ages, the lamp that cannot be quenched, the life of our nature.
For after these times there shall be yet three hundred and seventy and seven years more.
And as he preached the good tidings of the Messiah unto them, even as he had beheld and heard in dark sayings when his soul went up, all the people cried out: These are the words which Isaiah of old spake unto our fathers: I beheld God, and his Son.
And they slew him with a wooden saw, sawing him asunder. Come, then; let us stone him.
And when they heard these things, Baruch and Abimelech were sore grieved because of the death of Jeremiah, and had not heard in full the mysteries which the prophet who had gone up had beheld and heard.
And he, knowing their thoughts, said: Be still; they shall not slay me until I have declared unto you all that I beheld and heard.
And he said unto them: Bring hither a great stone unto me. And they brought it unto him.
And the prophet said: O Lord, make this stone as mine own likeness, that the people may stone it until I have told my brethren the things which I beheld and heard.
Then, by the commandment of God, the stone took on the likeness of the prophet,
And they stoned it in his stead.
And he told them all things which he had beheld and heard. And desiring to fulfil his ministry, he went forth into the midst of the people.
And by the command of God, the stone went up and cried out with the voice of a man, saying: O foolish children of Israel, wherefore do ye stone me, supposing that I am Jeremiah, who standeth in your midst?
Then, out of great soberness, they beheld the holy one; and taking up stones, they slew him. And he was stoned by his fellow captives of Jerusalem, who owed him much good; and he spake not against them, neither was he wroth, but thus he received the force of the stones, and through them he went up into heaven.
And when Baruch and Abimelech came, they buried him; and taking the stone, they placed it upon his tomb, inscribing thereon: This is the stone that was the ally of Jeremiah.
And the holy vessels Jeremiah laid up according to the command of God, sealed in this stone by his finger, in the name of God. Through the writing of iron, the imprint hath become upon the stone a shadow of cloud, for it is past all discerning. And the stone is in the desert where aforetime the ark was set apart with the rest. And this Jeremiah spake: The Lord went up to heaven from Zion; but he shall come again to visit Zion, and the coming of the Messiah shall be the sign, whensoever every nation worshippeth the cross, glorifying and praising God, unto whom be all glory for ever and ever. Amen.
