And when the hour of the night was come, even as the LORD had told Jeremiah, they came up together upon the walls of the city, Jeremiah and Baruch.

And behold, there came a sound of trumpets; and angels came forth from heaven, bearing torches in their hands, and they set them upon the walls of the city.

And when Jeremiah and Baruch beheld them, they wept, saying: Now we know that the word is true!

And Jeremiah besought the angels, saying: I beseech you, destroy not the city yet, until I have spoken somewhat unto the Lord.

And the LORD spake unto the angels, saying: Destroy not the city until I have spoken unto mine elect, Jeremiah.

Then Jeremiah spake, saying: I pray thee, Lord, bid me to speak in thy presence.

And the LORD said: Speak, mine elect, Jeremiah.

And Jeremiah said: Behold, Lord, now we know that thou art delivering the city into the hands of its enemies, and they shall carry the people away unto Babylon. What wilt thou have me do with the holy vessels of the temple service?

And the LORD said unto him: Take them and commit them unto the earth, saying: Hear, O Earth, the voice of thy creator, who formed thee in the abundance of waters, who sealed thee with seven seals for seven ages; and after this shalt thou receive thine adornment.

Guard the vessels of the temple service until the gathering of the beloved.

And Jeremiah spake, saying: I beseech thee, Lord, shew me what I should do for Abimelech the Ethiopian; for he hath done many kindnesses unto thy servant Jeremiah.

For he drew me up out of the miry pit; and I desire not that he should see the destruction and desolation of this city, but that thou wouldest be merciful unto him, and that he should not be grieved.

And the LORD said unto Jeremiah: Send him unto the vineyard of Agrippa, and I will hide him in the shadow of the mountain, until I cause the people to return unto the city.

And thou, Jeremiah, go with thy people into Babylon and abide with them, preaching unto them, until I cause them to return unto the city.

But leave Baruch here until I speak with him.

And when he had spoken these things, the Lord ascended from Jeremiah into heaven.

But Jeremiah and Baruch entered into the holy place, and taking the vessels of the temple service, they committed them unto the earth, even as the LORD had told them.

And straightway the earth swallowed them up.

And they both sat down and wept.

And when the morning was come, Jeremiah sent Abimelech, saying: Take a basket and go unto the estate of Agrippa by the mountain road, and bring back figs to give unto the sick among the people; for the favour of the LORD is upon thee, and his glory is upon thy head.

And when he had spoken thus, Jeremiah sent him away; and Abimelech went even as he had told him.

And at the sixth hour, when they had gone up upon the walls of the city, they heard the sound of trumpets.

And the angels came from heaven, bearing torches in their hands, and they set them upon the walls of the city.

And when they beheld them, they wept and said: Now we know that the word which God spake is true.

And they besought the angels, saying: We beseech you, destroy not the city until we have spoken unto God.

Then Jeremiah spake, saying: I pray thee, Lord, bid me to speak in thy presence.

And the LORD said: Speak.

And Jeremiah said: Behold, Lord, we know that thou art delivering the city into the hands of its enemies, and thy people depart unto Babylon.

What then shall we do with thy holy vessels?

And God said: Commit them unto the earth, saying: Hear, O earth, the voice of thy creator, who founded thee upon the waters, who sealed thee with seven seals for seven ages; and after this shalt thou receive thine adornment.

Guard the vessels of the temple service until the gathering of the beloved.

And Jeremiah spake again, saying: I beseech thee, Lord, what shall I do for Abimelech the Ethiopian, for he hath done many kindnesses unto thy servant?

For he drew me up out of the miry pit whither they cast me, and I desire not that he should see the destruction and spoiling of the city, for he is faint of heart.

And the LORD said unto Jeremiah: Send him unto the vineyard of Agrippa, and I will hide him in the shadow of the mountain, until the people are about to return from the captivity.

And thou, Jeremiah, go with thy people into Babylon and abide with them, preaching unto them, until I cause them to return.

But leave Baruch here.

Then they went into the temple, and taking the vessels of the temple service, they committed them unto the earth, even as the LORD had told them.

And at morning, Jeremiah said unto Abimelech: Take a basket, my child, and go unto the estate of Agrippa by the mountain road, and bring back figs unto the sick of the people; for the favour of God is upon thee, and glory is upon thy head.

And straightway he went forth into the field.
