Evening Prayer for Peace and Sleep

When night falls and peace doesn't come with it. When your body is in bed but your spirit is still running. A prayer for the rest your soul needs as badly as your body does.

Lord, I made it through another day. Not perfectly. Not gracefully.

But I'm here. And you're here. And that's where I want to end tonight.

I'm putting it all down now. The conversations that went wrong. The things I should have said.

The things I wish I hadn't. The moments I moved too fast to notice what someone needed from me. The places I was physically present but emotionally far away.

I'm letting them go. One by one. I don't want to carry them into sleep.

I don't know if I did enough today. I don't know if I was kind enough, patient enough, present enough for the people who needed me. There are moments I keep replaying like a loop.

Could I have listened better. Could I have slowed down. Could I have chosen gentleness instead of defensiveness.

But I know you don't measure me the way I measure myself. So I'm giving you the parts of today that I can't fix. The mistakes I can't undo.

The worry I can't stop replaying. The words I can't take back. Take it, Lord.

All of it. I wasn't designed to carry this overnight. Quiet my mind now.

Slow my breathing. Let my body remember that it is safe. That I am held.

That you are still here. That tomorrow is yours before it is mine. And you have given me this, because David knew it too.

Psalm 4 says Thank you for that promise. I will lay me down in peace. Because you alone, Lord, make me to dwell in safety.

Not because everything is resolved. Not because I suddenly understand every hard thing. But because you are present, and your presence is enough.

I release this day to you. Every hour of it. Every moment I handled well and every moment I didn't.

The things that brought joy. The things that brought strain. The things I understand and the things I still don't.

I trust you with what I cannot hold. I trust you with the people I love while they sleep. I trust you with the burdens I cannot fix tonight.

And I trust you with the morning before it gets here. In Jesus' name. Amen.
