Bible Verses for Insomnia
Insomnia is exhausting in a way that tired people cannot explain to well-rested ones. You lie down, you want to sleep, and your body refuses. The Bible does not prescribe a technique. It offers Someone. Sleep in Scripture is consistently described as a gift God gives to the ones He loves, not a skill you can master. These verses are what you read when you have tried everything and are still awake.
6 Scriptures for Insomnia
βIt is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.β
Psalm 127:2
Solomon is direct. You cannot force it. The more you try to earn rest by working harder or worrying more, the further it gets from you. Sleep is a gift, not a reward. God gives it to the ones He loves, which includes you.

Psalm 3:5
David testifies to something simple. He slept. He woke up. And he credits the LORD for both. Sleep is not something you produce. It is something you receive. Even the fact that your body does this every night without your input is a sustained gift.

Proverbs 3:24
Solomon is describing the result of trusting God with your life. Sweet sleep. Not because the stress evaporated. Because you stopped carrying what is not yours. Insomnia often comes from treating everything like it depends on you. This verse is a gentle reminder it does not.

Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus offers two kinds of rest. Physical rest for the body. Rest for the soul underneath the body. Insomnia usually means the soul has not stopped working even when the body wants to. Come, He says. Not fix it. Not explain it. Come. The rest works on both at once.

Ecclesiastes 5:12
Solomon names a pattern. The person who lived in honest dependence sleeps well. The one who has too much to protect does not. Insomnia is sometimes a sign that you are trying to protect more than you should be. Hand some of it over. Sleep follows.

God, I cannot force my body to sleep, and I have been trying. You said sleep is something You give, not something I earn. I am receiving it tonight instead of chasing it. I am laying down the things I do not need to carry into tomorrow. I am trusting You to watch the house while I rest. Give Your beloved sleep. Let mine be sweet. Amen.
