After this, Abimelech went forth from the city and prayed unto the Lord.

And behold, an angel of the Lord came and took him by the right hand and brought him back unto the place where Baruch was sitting; and he found him in a tomb.

And when they beheld one another, they both wept and kissed one another.

But when Baruch looked up, he beheld with his own eyes the figs that were covered in the basket of Abimelech.

And lifting up his eyes unto heaven, he prayed, saying:

Thou art the God who giveth reward unto those that love thee. Prepare thyself, O my heart, and rejoice and be glad whilst thou art yet in thy tabernacle, saying unto thy house of flesh: Thy grief is turned unto joy; for the Mighty One cometh, and shall deliver thee in thy tabernacle, for there is no iniquity in thee.

Be thou quickened in thy tabernacle, in thy pure faith, and believe that thou shalt live!

Behold this basket of figs; for lo, they are sixty and six years old, and have not become withered nor rotten, but they drip with milk.

So shall it be with thee, my flesh, if thou doest that which is commanded thee by the angel of righteousness.

He who preserved the basket of figs, the same shall preserve thee again by his power.

And when Baruch had spoken these things, he said unto Abimelech: Arise, and let us pray that the Lord may make known unto us how we may send unto Jeremiah in Babylon the tidings of the shelter given thee upon the way.

And Baruch prayed, saying: O Lord God, thou art our strength, thou art the chosen light which cometh forth from thy mouth.

We beseech and entreat of thy goodness, thou whose great name none is able to know; hear the voice of thy servants and let understanding come into our hearts.

What shall we do, and how shall we send these tidings unto Jeremiah in Babylon?

And whilst Baruch yet prayed, behold, an angel of the Lord came and spake all these words unto Baruch: O servant of the light, be not troubled as to how thou shalt send unto Jeremiah; for an eagle shall come unto thee at the hour of light on the morrow, and thou shalt direct him unto Jeremiah.

Wherefore write in a letter: Say unto the children of Israel, Let the stranger that cometh among you be set apart, and let fifteen days pass; and after this I will lead you into your city, saith the Lord.

He that is not separated from Babylon shall not enter into the city; and I will chastise them by keeping them from being received back by the Babylonians, saith the Lord.

And when the angel had spoken these things, he departed from Baruch.

And Baruch sent unto the market of the gentiles and procured papyrus and ink, and wrote a letter after this manner: Baruch, the servant of God, writeth unto Jeremiah in the captivity of Babylon:

Greeting and rejoicing! For God hath not suffered us to depart from this body grieving for the city which was laid waste and brought to shame.

Wherefore the Lord hath had compassion on our tears, and hath remembered the covenant which he established with our fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

And he sent his angel unto me, and he declared unto me these words which I send unto thee.

These, then, are the words which the Lord, the God of Israel, spake, who led us forth out of Egypt, out of the great furnace: Because ye kept not mine ordinances, but your heart was lifted up, and ye were haughty before me, in anger and in wrath I delivered you unto the furnace in Babylon.

If therefore, saith the Lord, ye hearken unto my voice, from the mouth of Jeremiah my servant, I will bring him that hearkeneth up from Babylon; but he that hearkeneth not shall become a stranger unto Jerusalem and unto Babylon.

And ye shall prove them by the waters of the Jordan; whosoever hearkeneth not shall be made manifest; this is the sign of the great seal.

And Abimelech, rising up, prayed that it might be revealed unto him what he should do.

And behold, an angel of the Lord came and took him by the right hand and brought him safely unto the tomb wherein Baruch was sitting.

And beholding one another, they wept greatly; and then they prayed unto God and rejoiced, glorifying and praising him.

And Baruch, beholding the figs which were gathered seventy times before, still dripping with milk, was astonished and said:

Let us pray unto God that the Lord may make known unto us how, then, we shall give knowledge unto Jeremiah concerning the shelter wrought for thee, and now thine awakening which passeth understanding.

And whilst they did this, they heard an angel which was sent unto them:

Write a letter unto Jeremiah, saying what he must do unto the people, even as I say unto you. And the angel told them all things which they should write, and delivered over unto them also this: Behold, in a few days God shall lead you forth out of Babylon unto Jerusalem. And early on the morrow, when an eagle cometh, bind the letter and a few figs upon its neck, that it may bear these things unto Jeremiah in Babylon.

And when the angel had spoken these things, he departed from them.

And straightway, taking papyrus, Baruch sat down and wrote the things which he had heard from the angel.
